PHD STUDENT COURSE AT CHALMERS

Since 2015, we have had the honour of running a PhD student course at Chalmers. The course is worth 1.5 higher education credits and focuses on popular science communication. To date, we have delivered over 60 courses. Chalmers’ vision is to be a globally leading technical university for a better world. We are delighted and proud to be able to educate the next generation of research leaders and equip them with the tools to share their knowledge for the benefit and enjoyment of society.

PRESENTATION SKILLS FOR THE SWEDISH BAR ASSOCIATION

We are course leaders for a module in the training programme for trainee solicitors organised by the Swedish Bar Association. Our responsibility is to run two workshops during the final half-day of one of the three sub-courses that are a prerequisite for admission to the Bar Association. As a lawyer, the ability to communicate is a vital skill. Ordrum offers specially designed training programmes aimed specifically at lawyers. The opportunity to reflect on and practise this skill, even as a practising lawyer, is a highly valued aspect of our collaboration with law firms on their professional development.

TRAINING FOR ALL HEALTHCARE CENTRES IN THE UPPSALA REGION

We trained all staff at every healthcare centre within the then county council. During an introductory half-day session, we gave a presentation on patient care and interpersonal communication. What is the significance of good patient care in the healthcare sector, and what does it look like? What do body language and choice of words mean? Over the course of several subsequent half-days, we carried out more practical work at each health centre. In addition to exercises and lectures on interpersonal communication, we staged a number of challenging communication scenarios drawn from the centres’ own operations. Participants were given the opportunity to practise in their own professional roles.

CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING FOR BOLIDEN

The project covered all staff at Boliden’s underground mines and open-cast quarries and formed part of the company’s B-Safe Days, focusing on workplace safety. “We are each other’s working environment” was the title of our session, and we met with no fewer than 18 different groups. Among other things, we discussed how good customer service begins with becoming aware of how others perceive me – and that I am the only one who can change my own behaviour. We must start with ourselves – and dig where we stand. Pictured are Fredrik Mattsson and Bengt Kyllinge just before the descent into the depths.

COMMUNICATION TRAINING AND PRESENTATION TECHNIQUES FOR VOLVO CARS

Over a three-year period starting in 2015, we worked on communication training and presentation techniques with the procurement organisation at Volvo Cars. We ran six masterclasses in presentation techniques spread over three days, working in groups of up to eight people. Alongside the small-group courses, we also delivered large-scale lectures on communication for the entire procurement unit.

MYTODRAMA® FOR IPF

On behalf of the Institute for Personnel and Organisational Development (IPF), which is owned by Uppsala University, Fredrik has for a number of years been running a regular feature of Karlstad Municipality’s leadership training programme for new managers within the municipality. The programme takes the form of a ‘mythodrama’, in which universal leadership challenges are explored and discussed through a narrative – in this case, William Shakespeare’s *Henry V*, which centres on the life and times of the 15th-century English king. Mythodrama is a fascinating way of using the power of storytelling to capture the dilemmas and opportunities of leadership. Ordrum has been part of this training programme since its launch in 2022.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENTS IN GOTHENBURG, LERUM AND TYRESÖ

On several occasions, we have worked with urban development departments within local authorities seeking to improve their communication of construction-related matters to, amongst others, their citizens. We have delivered comprehensive training programmes in presentation techniques for the local authorities in Lerum and Tyresö, as well as for the City of Gothenburg.

“MANAGERS AND LEADERS” FOR THE STOCKHOLM SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS

Since 2024, we have been delivering two modules as part of the “Managers and Leaders” programme organised by Stockholm School of Economics Executive Education, which, according to the Financial Times, is ranked as the best in the Nordic region for leadership and business development. The theme of our segments is “Captivate your audience”, and the focus is on training techniques. Because if you want to learn a skill, you have to practise. Simply knowing how to do something isn’t enough. And when you practise, you have to accept that everything you’re not yet used to will feel a bit unnatural – until it becomes second nature. Practice makes perfect.

PITCH AND PRESENTATION TECHNIQUES FOR THE VÄSTRA GÖTALAND REGION

The Västra Götaland region offers a unique one-and-a-half-year programme: Innovation for Doctors. As part of this training, Ordrum has had the privilege of providing public speaking training for the group since 2022.

PITCH TRAINING FOR SKF’S GLOBAL GRADUATES

Since 2023, we have been delivering two days of public speaking training to participants in the Global Graduate Programme at the SKF Group. During graduation week, participants are required to deliver a final presentation in which they reflect on the 3–4 placements around the world they have undertaken during the 18-month programme. In their final presentations, they are expected to offer both a personal and a professional perspective.

LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME AT TOYOTA

Since 2023, we have been running courses in presentation techniques as part of Toyota Material Handling’s leadership programme. The Swedish head office in Mjölby serves as the international hub for the company, which is the world leader in the production of innovative, high-quality material handling equipment.

TRAINEE PROGRAMME AT REGION KALMAR

From 2007 to 2018, Ordrum delivered a two-day module as part of the management trainee programme in Kalmar County. In recent years, participants were also given support in fine-tuning their presentations ahead of the final presentation to the county council executive committee at the end of the trainee programme. The photograph is from the presentation to the Kalmar County Council executive committee in 2017, later known as Region Kalmar.
